Druid Craft Tarot Deck: Celebrate the Earth (Tarot Cards)

Druid Craft Tarot Deck: Celebrate the Earth (Tarot Cards)

At a time when we seek closer connection with the natural world, The Druid Craft Tarot Deck invites us to celebrate the earth and the rhythm of her seasons. This acclaimed deck created by practising Druids combines the two great streams of Western pagan tradition–Wicca and Druidry. Its powerful images have emerged from a vast store of teachings and story-telling rooted in the past, and also from the ancient concepts of numerology, which have provided the artist, Will Worthington, with inspiration from Sacred Geometry.

This latest version comes in a hard cardboard box that will hold up for a long time. The deck and book fit in the bottom of the box with a fitted top-cover that slips over the bottom half of the box instead of a folding flap style. (If that makes any sense…) It does not come in too much packaging like my other copy. The book is shrunk to fit inside the box and is very readable, even for those of us who wear glasses. The whole package is much handier and the whole thing fits easily into my purse. Excellent! I wish it came this way before.

Pluses and minuses as art, January 22, 2011

What I like about this deck, in no particular order:

    - General look (artistic and not computer-generated)
    - Colour scheme
    - Earthiness in the figures
    - Good depth to the views mixed with interesting detail (some tarot decks lack depth and some lack engaging or meaningful detail)
    - Originality as well as legibility
    - The Hanging Man is indeed nude, as some have pointed out, but he is lovely as a nude figure and he represents a ‘Green Man’ type.

What I don’t like, in order:

    - Rather coarse depictions of body parts on nearly all figures, esp. big chunky Hobbit feet only without the Hobbit-foot hair
    - I appreciate the variety of human types, but sometimes they look cartoonish and again, unrefined
    - The ‘Lovers’ card is very near to depicting the sex act (the man is lowered rather than full-on, with the woman’s legs spread; their faces are what might be termed ‘porn faces’), and I find this altogether too much. I also think that it narrows unnecessarily what it means to love or be a lover: it is not purely sexual energy; other and perhaps higher drives or capacities are involved as well. True lovers engage each other’s minds as well as bodies.
    - Overall, apart from The Hanged Man card mentioned above, there was more bare flesh in this deck than I really like to see. E.g., in the ‘Star’ card, I found the total female nudity distracting and thought how true it is that a bit of fabric somewhere on you can be more alluring from a distance.

The artist, who calls himself Will for this deck but Bill for the Druidic Animal Oracle, is much better in my opinion when it comes to the animal portraits and landscapes of the latter deck. This deck was much less captivating than I had expected it to be; the Animal Oracle is surpassing both as an aid to meditation and as art.

After one of my old Tarot cards has been misplaced, I was looking for a replacement. Something with a nice pictures and with an explanation book.
I have received a box, which is pretty large, and I am not sure I could place the whole set in my purse as it was stated above. However the card size is nicely large. The book is very detailed, explaining all the meanings, presented with a six samples of possible readings at the back.
It is nice druid set of Tarot card, recommended to anyone.
